And a forum too?

I'm testing out a new forums widget from Freewebs instead of comments.
What do you think?

Are conservatives really this desparate?

Reading Conservapedia is a new experience.

Going back to what I said the other day about people trying to create sense where there is none, and also of the conservative media's tendency to squash discussion, this site presents an attempt to find an enemy. A big difference from regular wikis (aside from tone) is the inability of anyone to register in order to edit pages. So the site's editors can alter Wikipedia if they like but they don't want the nasty liberals to come and dispute their claims?

Once again, what are they afraid of? Ridicule and the truth.

It's also further proof that many conservatives just don't get that the modern world has changed, and as such they becoming desperate. The media is increasingly about a conversation rather than a presentation. If you're not prepared to converse then you are doomed to sound like a parrot. If you actively go out of your way to silence debate then you are instantly making yourself look foolish.

They can paint it as fear of liberals, socialists, Jews or Satan all they want, but Conservapedia unintentionally shows that the true face of extreme conservatism is small minded, weak and pathetic. Even when they have a conservative president in the White House, they still feel the need to demonise people as "biased" for, among other things, using several date formats and non-American English language spelling. (When in fact both are examples of accidental pluralism).

What these conservatives really fear is not liberalism, as they often make quite the noises about having the liberty to do as they please. Liberalism in their terms is anything they don't believe in, but what they actually mean is centrism. Wikipedia is populated by users from all walks of life, which makes it centrist. It is also global, which is also something to which Conservapedia seriously objects. Again, apparently this constitutes "bias", but we can only assume it does so in the terms of Fair and Balanced.

Conservative used to be a word for care and caution. It has always embraced the idea of preservation of that which should be preserved and a sensible attitude to the world. I wonder what moderate conservatives make of the likes of Conservapedia and whether they feel it undermines them. What are moderate conservatives supposed to do in this day and age?
